Boat Building

Get hands-on with our boat building program and assemble your own boat from start to finish with our one-of a kind classes!

We are pleased to announce that, starting in early October of 2021, the Cape Cod Maritime Museum is bringing back our popular Youth Boat Building Program, with generous support from the JFK Memorial Trust Fund Committee.

Available for children grades 6-8 who live in the Town of Barnstable, these hands-on workshops are led by dedicated and skilled CCMM volunteers. Working as a team, participants will construct a 12 foot traditional rowing skiff from a standardized boat building kit.

Throughout the building process, kids will improve and develop critical math and woodworking skills as they embark on a journey of fun, talent-building and future "work-readiness" with their peers and adult mentors.

The Program's workshops will be held each Saturday at 9:30am to 12:00pm, from October 2 through December 11, and every participant will experience the satisfaction and pride of learning how to complete the construction of a seaworthy small boat!

Interested Barnstable families with school-aged children should contact Barnstable Recreation at 508-790-6345 or visit the Town of Barnstable's Recreation page for more information on how to register.
